Disc injury care in Oak Hill and Dripping Springs

Do you have a disc injury?

If you are living with a disc injury, and the short-term fixes are lasting less and less time, start with the structure. A scan report can read frightening and still not be the reason you hurt. It can also be the other way around. Pain here runs from a deep ache to a line of pain down the leg.

Precision Chiropractic ATX sees people from Oak Hill, Dripping Springs, Driftwood, Lakeway, Wimberley, and Austin. Dr. Eberle is a CBP-Trained Doctor of Chiropractic. Care looks at structure and function together.

What we look at

A disc report is more than one finding

The discs sit between the vertebrae. They take load, and they let the spine move. A report may say bulge, herniation, or degeneration. Those words are not the same thing, and none of them by itself tells us why you hurt. This is a guide to what we see. A visit is how we tell which one is yours.

Bulge and herniation

The outer edge of a disc can weaken. The center can then bulge, or push farther out. That is common, and it is not always painful. When the disc irritates a nerve, people often feel shooting or stabbing pain, sometimes with numbness or weakness in the leg. The first job is to see how far it has gone, so care does not make it worse. Low back pain that travels with it is covered on the back pain page.

What a scan shows, and what it does not

An MRI is how a disc is pictured. An X-ray does not show the disc itself. We take X-rays in the office to see alignment and bone, and we read a scan you already have. The exam is how we connect the report to how you move and where you hurt.

Degeneration

Disc changes show up with age, often with no single injury to point to. The pain can still be real. Care here looks at the structural pattern around the disc, not only the word on the report.

After a lift or a twist

Lifting while twisting, or a sudden load, is a common way a disc gets hurt. A back that will not straighten often comes with it. These injuries tend to change how the spine lines up, and they are a reason people come in.

When it needs another doctor

Weakness that is getting worse, trouble with the bowel or bladder, or pain after a major accident needs a different doctor, and it needs that quickly. Those need to be sorted out, not guessed at. The exam is how we tell whether chiropractic care is the right next step.

Measured, then tracked

A thorough exam lets us see what is going on. We take objective measures of structure and function, including on-site X-rays, and we use those measures to track progress. The exam covers a wide set of metrics, so plan 90 to 120 minutes for the initial visit.

FAQ

Questions about disc injury

What kinds of disc injuries do you see?

People come in with disc bulges and herniations, a scan report that sounds worse than the pain, and pain, numbness, or weakness that travels into the leg. It can be new, after a lift or a twist, or it can have been around long enough that sitting and walking are the hard part.

Can chiropractic care put a disc back in?

No. Chiropractic care does not push a disc back into place, and it does not take the place of an MRI or a specialist when those are needed. What we do is measure structure and function, including on-site X-rays, and work on how the spine moves around the disc so care does not make it worse.
