Whiplash care in Oak Hill and Dripping Springs

Do you have whiplash?

If a collision left your neck to catch up later, start with a clear look at the structure. Whiplash is the strain that happens when the head is thrown and the neck has to stop it. Stiffness, headache, and trouble turning the head often show up a day or two later, not at the roadside. A bumper that looks fine does not tell you what the neck did.

Precision Chiropractic ATX sees people from Oak Hill, Dripping Springs, Driftwood, Lakeway, Wimberley, and Austin. Dr. Eberle is a CBP-Trained Doctor of Chiropractic. Care looks at structure and function together.

What we look at

The neck after a collision is more than one thing

Whiplash is a sudden load through the joints, discs, muscles, and ligaments of the neck. It does not take a dramatic crash. A low-speed stop can do it. Without a look at how the head sits and how the neck moves, it is hard to say what is strained. This is a guide to what we see. A visit is how we tell which one is yours.

Why it shows up late

Adrenaline covers a lot at the roadside. The stiffness and the headache often arrive over the next day or two. That delay is a common pattern. It is not a sign that nothing happened, and it is not a sign that you waited too long to have it looked at.

Stiffness and turning the head

People describe a neck that will not turn, a pull into the shoulder, or an ache at the base of the skull. These injuries tend to change how the neck lines up, and they are a reason people come in. Neck pain that stays after the first days is covered on the neck pain page.

Headache that travels with it

A headache after a collision often sits with the neck. It is not always the same problem. The exam is how we tell whether the headache is part of the neck pattern. Headaches are covered on the headaches page.

When it needs another doctor

Numbness or weakness that is getting worse, trouble with speech or vision, a severe headache that is new, or pain after a high-speed crash needs a different doctor, and it needs that quickly. Those need to be sorted out, not guessed at. The exam is how we tell whether chiropractic care is the right next step.

Measured, then tracked

A thorough exam lets us see what is going on. We take objective measures of structure and function, including on-site X-rays, and we use those measures to track progress. The exam covers a wide set of metrics, so plan 90 to 120 minutes for the initial visit. A neck that just went through a collision gets that exam before any hands-on care.

Peter Lenhart, Director of Rehab, helps patients improve structure and function with specialized exercises and angular tractions. More on the approach is on the CBP page.

Dr. Eberle's approach to chiropractic treatment is far more comprehensive than other offices I've been to and caters to long-term, full body health, while also paying attention to any acute concerns. My body is significantly healing and healthier after being in Dr. Eberle's care!Nicole
FAQ

Questions about whiplash

What does whiplash feel like?

People come in with stiffness after a collision, a neck that will not turn, headache, and a pull into the shoulder. It often shows up a day or two later, not at the roadside. It can be new, or it can have been around long enough that driving and a normal day are the hard part.

Can chiropractic care undo whiplash?

No. Chiropractic care does not undo a collision, and it does not take the place of an emergency room or a specialist when those are needed. What we do is measure how the neck sits and how it moves, including on-site X-rays, and work on that pattern once the exam says hands-on care is appropriate.
