Vertigo care in Oak Hill and Dripping Springs

Do you have vertigo?

If turning your head, rolling over in bed, or standing up makes the room move, and the spells are lasting longer or coming back, start with the structure. Some of it is the inner ear. Some of it travels from the neck. Some of it needs a different doctor. The exam is how we tell.

Precision Chiropractic ATX sees people from Oak Hill, Dripping Springs, Driftwood, Lakeway, Wimberley, and Austin. Dr. Eberle is a CBP-Trained Doctor of Chiropractic. Care looks at structure and function together.

What we look at

The room is not only the inner ear

Vertigo is the sense that you, or the room, are spinning. Feeling lightheaded, or like you might faint, is a different problem with different causes. Without a look at the neck, the way the head sits, and what the exam shows, it is hard to say which one this is. This is a guide to what we see. A visit is how we tell which one is yours.

A turn that sets the room spinning

Rolling over in bed, looking up, or a quick turn of the head. The spell can last seconds, or it can stay long enough that driving and a grocery aisle are the hard part. A short rest quiets it, and then the same turn brings it back.

When it starts in the neck

A structural pattern in the neck can send a spinning or off-balance feeling even when the ear looks like the obvious place. Desk posture does this often. The neck and the ear blame each other, and the exam is how we tell which one is driving it. Neck pain that travels with dizziness is covered on the neck pain page.

With a headache

Some people get the spin with a headache, or a migraine that comes with the room feeling unsteady. A structural exam does not assume the headache is the cause. It looks at whether the neck pattern is part of it. Headaches are covered on the headaches and migraines page.

After a car accident or a fall

A sudden stop, a fall, or a hit to the head can leave dizziness that shows up later, with stiffness and trouble turning the neck. These injuries tend to change how the neck lines up, and they are a reason people come in. That pattern is covered on the whiplash page.

When it needs a different doctor

Sudden hearing loss, a new severe headache, fainting, chest pain, trouble speaking, one-sided weakness, or double vision that is new needs a medical doctor now. Inner-ear problems need to be sorted out too, not guessed at. The exam is how we tell whether chiropractic care is the right next step.

Measured, then tracked

A thorough exam lets us see what is going on. We take objective measures of structure and function, including on-site X-rays, and we use those measures to track progress. The exam covers a wide set of metrics, so plan 90 to 120 minutes for the initial visit.

Peter Lenhart, Director of Rehab, helps patients improve structure and function with specialized exercises and angular tractions. More on the approach is on the CBP page.

FAQ

Questions about vertigo

What kinds of vertigo do you see?

People come in with a room that spins when they turn their head or roll over in bed, an off-balance feeling that will not settle, dizziness that shows up with a headache, and spells that started after a car accident or a fall.

Can vertigo come from the neck?

Yes. A structural pattern in the neck can send a spinning or off-balance feeling even when the ear looks like the obvious place. The exam is how we tell whether the neck, the inner ear, or both are part of it.

What happens at a first visit?
